Skin Needling Results Compared

The following sections compare skin needling results and usage with the results produced by several other major cosmetic treatments including Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), botulinum toxin, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing (LSR).

It is hoped it assists you in making an informed choice about your skin care needs.

Skin Needling results compared with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Both skin needling and IPL can increase the production of collagen type one and three. In 2011 scientific research showed that skin needling increased both total collagen count and thickening of the skin significantly more than IPL suggesting that it is by far the more effective anti aging treatment (1).

Skin Needling results compared to botulinum toxin

It is hard to argue with the results achieved by botulinum toxin. They are rapid and highly visible. Skin needling in comparison produces a more natural and longer lasting change. On average the results of a botulinum injection last about six months.

In comparison the collagen production produced by skin needling usually lasts between five and seven years. For many there are still safety concerns with botulinum toxin which are not present with skin needling.

Skin Needling Results compared to Chemical Peels

Again both treatments can increase collagen production by stimulating the dermis. Both treatments can also increase trans-dermal absorption of products through the skin to increase their anti aging effect.

In comparison though, skin needling can do so without removing the surface layer of the skin. This means skin needling has lower infection risks and usually much faster recovery times.

Skin Needling results compared to Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion like chemical peels can stimulate collagen production and increase trans-dermal absorption by removing the outer surface layers of the skin.

Unlike skin needling it has a relatively high infection rate and is not considered safe for darker skin due to the risk of pigmentation change. This makes skin needling the safer, effective option.

Skin needling results compared to LSR (Laser Skin Resurfacing)

Skin needling and LSR can both increase collagen production by stimulating the dermis. Skin needling however, produces far fewer side-effects. LSR can actually boil the water in the skin surface as it passes through making skin needling the far safer option.
