Description
Cosmetic dry needling is a popular treatment that involves inserting acupuncture needles into the skin. The treatment can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars, sagging, and other early signs of aging.
Although it seems similar to acupuncture, the two treatments are quite different. This is mainly because a dry needling massage therapist needs no knowledge of point location or Chinese medicine to perform the treatment.
At White Lotus, we offer professional dry needling courses that are designed for practitioners who are qualified to perform skin penetration treatments but haven’t studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture meridians or acupressure point location.
Unlike traditional Holistic cosmetic acupuncture courses, the White Lotus course contains sections that will help students understand how dry needling works and includes a range of detailed diagrams and explanations of distal and acupuncture points.

What does dry needling do on the face?
Cosmetic dry needling is carried out using a threading technique that passes under fine lines and wrinkles.
The process stimulates natural collagen production and separates the healthy collagen so fine lines and wrinkles don’t appear so prominently.
Dry needling facial muscles can not only help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but it can also help with scar tissue and sagging skin.
Cosmetic Dry Needling Benefits
The key benefits of cosmetic dry needling for face are:
- Increases natural collagen production
- Reduces the appearance of scars and wrinkles
- Lifts sagging and drooping skin
- Dry needling for sinus relief can reduce swelling and fluid retention
- Remedial massage dry needling can improve lymphatic drainage

Who can perform dry needling?
Who can do dry needling depends on the regulations of the country you live in. Generally, physio dry needling can be performed by medical doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and chiropractors.
Many aestheticians, beauty therapists and massage therapists can also perform this treatment after taking our physio dry needling course.
Please be aware that our cosmetic dry needling classes do not aim to teach dry needling from scratch. Instead, the course is best for practitioners who already practice dry needling but want to add cosmetic treatments to their clinic or salon.
If you’re a chiropractor and dry needling is something you already practice but want to start cosmetic dry needling, you should check with your insurers first. Your insurers will be able to let you know if your qualifications allow you to perform these types of treatments.
If you aren’t insured, you may have to take a massage therapist dry needling course, or dry needling short course for beauticians and aestheticians course. These courses will last on average between 60–80 hours and must be attended in person.
if you are not sure if cosmetic dry needling or cosmetic acupuncture training is better for you then please follow this link to compare the courses.
